What is a hackathon?
There are different types of hackathons. GoSHackathon uses the term 'hack' as a clever solution to a problem rather than to 'hack' into a computer or software without permission of the owner or company.

So you don't have to be a tech whiz, but you do need to be a creative thinker and cooperative collaborator!
GoSHackathon Problems
Your team will have a choice of four problems to choose from. These are top secret until the Hackathon where they will be released to all teams.

Practice Problems
The way we grow, use, and share food is facing big challenges, including waste, water use, and missed opportunities to create new food products.

There is a pressing need for smarter, more sustainable farming and food systems that support people, protect the environment, and make better use of the food we produce.

You are invited to develop an innovative and practical idea that could improve how we farm, reduce waste, create exciting new food products, and inspire the next generation to help build a fairer and stronger food future.
Secondary Level
Design an equitable and sustainable solution to strengthen Western Australia’s agriculture and food sector by increasing value-added production, reducing waste, and improving on-farm practices through innovation and technology.
Consider the needs of vulnerable groups—such as regional producers, small-scale farmers, and food-insecure families—by proposing practical, scalable, and environmentally responsible systems that support local food manufacturing, enhance productivity, and make agri-food careers more attractive to the next generation.

Primary Level
Think of a fair and smart way to help farmers and food makers in Western Australia.
Your idea should help us use the food we grow in better ways, waste less food and water, and find new tools or ideas to make farming easier and more helpful. Make sure your plan helps everyone, including small farmers, people living in the country, and families who don’t always have enough to eat. Try to come up with a solution that works well now, can grow over time, and is good for the environment.
