Professional Learning
Practical, evidence-informed professional learning for educators supporting diverse minds & behaviours.

Discovery Labs professional learning supports educators to better examine behaviour, engagement and student motivation through evidence-based insigths and practical strategies that can be applied in real classrooms.
We recognise that teachers are already carrying significant demands. Our professional learning does not add additional layers of complexity. Instead, our strengths-based programs unravel disengagement, utilising practical tools to support communication, foster motivation, and reduce pressure for teachers, EAs and students.
Our approach is strengths-based, evidence-informed and grounded in the realities of mainstream classroom practice. All professional learning programs are aligned to the Australian Professional Teaching Standards for Teachers.
School leaders utilise Discovery Labs professional learning to:
~ build staff capability
~ respond to parent expectations
~ strengthen inclusion strategy
~ support behaviour and engagement priorities
~ align professional learning with student wellbeing and learning outcomes
~ demonstrate practical action beyond awareness raising

WHAT WE OFFER
Understanding Neurodivergence
A practical workshop providing evidence-based understanding, and real-classroom insights supporting the management of various neurodivergent profiles in school settings, including autism, ADHD and undiagnosed cognitive differences.
This workshop is available in three formats: Classroom teachers, education assistants, and Physical Education staff. Each program sees educators move beyond definitions and into confident managment of everyday classroom scenarios. Grounded in the evidence of Michelle Wong's global research supporting the psychological needs of autistic youth, participants will explore how neurodivergent students may be experiencing participation, communication differences, sensory processing, peer dynamics and overwhelm. Most importantly, educators will explore various strategies to support these students.
Understanding Neurodivergence focuses on building supportive and effective environments within the current capabilities of educators. Reducing the burden on school staff is the first step to supporting all minds to thrive.
OUTCOMES
~ evidence-informed insights into neurodivergent learning experiences
~ practical strategies for immediate application in the classroom

Strengths-Based Behaviour Support
Behaviour often communicates something about the learning environment, task demands, social expectations or unmet needs.
This professional learning assists educators to reframe behaviour through a strengths-based and motivation-informed lens. Teachers explore practical strategies that can support autonomy, competence and belonging while reducing avoidable escalation, disengagement and repeated behaviour cycles.
The goal is to support students while also reducing the burden on educators. We recognise that schools are managing:
~ increasing classroom complexity
~ diverse learning needs
~ behaviour and engagement challenges
~ parent expectations
~ curriculum demands
~limited planning time
OUTCOMES
~ techniques to reduce uncertainty among neurodivergent students, supporting classroom management
~ increase strengths-based tools for managing behaviour and supporting participation

Building Inclusive Innovation Experiences
This workshop supports teachers to design curriculum-aligned learning experiences where more students can participate, contribute and demonstrate capability beyond the traditional classroom environment.
Educators explore structured ideation, strength-based team roles, alternate communication options, predictable challenge design and practical ways to create inclusive innovation experiences in classrooms, camps, extension programs and school events.
OUTCOMES
~ Develop tools for recognising student capability beyond traditional performance
~ Increased confidence and strategies for supporting diverse learners
